What makes you think that these developers are money hungry? Many of them are just doing what they need to survive. Developers who take risks are closing down left to right such as team bondi. They are just doing what they need to succeed. Episodic content is used to keep gamers from selling their games. Of course this may not be true for all developers, but it is unfair to group them all together as being "evil".

If a game already sells millions of copies and there is additionally DLC for around 30$, that goes only into profit. They could have done profit with adding the DLC into the full game, but they don't.
You are right, there are many devs who need the money as basic income, but there are also many devs, that use it to make even more money. This generally goes with the big publishers.

I don't think you understand what profit is. Profit is calculated by revenue minus costs. If the initial sales revenue of the game itself does not yet make up for the development costs, the DLC is not profit until the total revenue exceeds the costs.
And DLC itself costs money to make. People don't seem to realize that most of the work in game development is not creating the game engine, , but rather creating the digital assets. A great deal of work goes into the DLC even if its still the "same" game, but with new missions or whatever else the DLC contains.
