microsoft will only say that their current generation platform is the last one once they get that console in everybodies house. if the X1 sells as many units as the 360 you can bet they will make a new gen after it so they can reach more households. they want it to be in the center of the living room and they want to control it.
also, you wont be able to assemble your X1 from 3rd party publishers, at that point the hardwar will be cheap and even much more cheaper to make. the profit margins will be huge and they wont give that up
