I went in knowing resources would be scarce, so I barely use anything and I'm super careful with each approach. The bow and arrow. If I couldn't sneak my way around clickers, I'd head shot them with my bow and arrow. This is extremely useful because it doesn't alert nearby infected, AND you can retrieve the used arrow most of the time if it was a clean hit.
