I don't really think the Xbox 1 has weaker third party support. It seems to be even with PS4 and has some goodies that PS4 doesn't have or won't have for a while (Titanfall, anyone?). Still, I agree that it offers very little aside from a Kinect for the 100 dollar difference.
Even so, I think Live will try to make good on its some of its promises (cloud computing, Kinect's integration into the living room) and may try to bring DRM to the masses via incentive rather than stuffing it down the consumer's throats. I get that a lot of the promises and innovation the console promised with the always on console might not come to fruition yet, but I applaud Microsoft for listening to the consumers and letting us decide if we're ready for it. It looks like we're not.
Despite the higher price tag, the backpedal on DRM and mandatory connectivity will only help Microsoft in sales, and I see that as a good thing. It still offers the most robust console online service and has Halo, so I think the consumers who want those things will have their incentives to buy it.
I'm getting a PS4 and always planned on it, but I am glad that competition exists. It will benefit both consoles. Just look at how the close race brought out so much quality in this current generation of gaming. If Xbox 1 isn't competitive, it might result in complacency. And even though Sony has learned from their mistakes, they've been known to get arrogant too (look at the PS3 launch), so I'm glad Microsoft will be there to keep them in check. Still, PS4 will probably be number one seller worldwide due to the brand's power and may even edge out Xbox in the US due to its price.
