It is as simple as you wrote it. The numbers forced Microsoft to change their policies. Neither MS or Sony or Nintendo are our friends. Money is thier friend. I m confident that Sony had some kind of DRM in place but after seing what happen to MS they decided to throw the KO punch at E3 specially after XBOX360 almost destroy them in the last Gen. Sony launch day PS4 has been already sold out multiple places around the world and Sony decided to release Bundle to get even more sale. And those bundle have been on top for like 2-3 straight days while Xbox1 launch day edition hasnt been sold out almost anywhere.

Those numbers forced MS to change thier policy not because they cared about "us"

That it and I will add more.

MS is having production issues and Sony not... the number os slots released for preorder per store was like 15 do Xbone and 45 to PS4 due these extreme low supply of Xbone due production issues.

Now compare with what you said... PS4 launch day edition sold out... only normal editions (to be shipped after the launch day)... Xbone launch edition already limited in stock.

The numbers that MS received from retail could be something like 10 to 1.

MS won't change the policies for anything like 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 because this difference it can get in the future but a head start of 10 to 1 should be a EPIC failure like 50k Xbone vs 500k PS4 at launch day.
