According to Digital Foundry, in "technical terms", it's up therw with the best-of-the-best (bettering everything on consoles in some areas). After personal time with it, I'm inclined to take their word.

I disagree with Digital Foundry. Although I guess it all depends on what aspects of the visual design you choose to focus.

I don't think it's possible to have high-res textures in a game like The Last of Us because the video memory of the PS3 is being maxed out. This comes with the design of the game and considering that, TLOU is among the top this generation. However, when ignoring the open game design and high level of detail and judging the game purely on a visual level, it falls short from many earlier released games like God of War and Halo 4. These games' designs allow for sharper textures, more advanced lighting effects and higer polygon models which all result in a higer visual fidelity.
