Diving Bell and the Butterfly is the correct answer, but that's too hoity toity even for the hoity toity oscars.

The Oscars treads a careful line between "we have artistic integrity" and "we need people to watch our telecast because that's where all our money comes from and the reason we matter."  They always tend to pick solid films that are good, but aren't so esoteric that a huge portion of the audience wouldn't have even heard of the films being nominated.

This year, There Will Be Blood and No Country really did deserve to be nominated, though. The odd ducks are Juno and particularly Atonement -- it just screams "this is a pretty good but not great film. We included it so that more people would watch."
