It's access to the programming list.  Microsoft has to subscribe to the service that provides those listings for each and every cable/satellite provider.

The rest is HDMI pass through.  HDMI supports the remote operation of a device via a single connection, which is how the Xbox One will be able to control the cable/satellite box.  It's making sure that every possible box works across all cable, telco, and satellite providers.  The OneGuide is an app that insets the video from the input into a window, while you access it, then switches to full screen once the selection has been made.

For any non-HDMI devices, there is the IR Blaster.

so to reask my question...  does that mean if comcast says "fuck off" comcast won't work on xbone?

...cause without that is seems to me live tv could be viewed via xbone but you couldn't change the channel.  no?
