I think the difference is MS will be providing the Cloud infrastructure with Azure for the developers to do this as well as new APIs in the Xbox One SDK to further take advantage of Azure services, new Azure services specifically created for Xbox One, etc. While Sony will likely tell developers go ahead and use cloud were not stopping you. Then developers will determine what cloud infrastructure to use. Some may use Azure (wouldnt that be funny), some will use Amazon, some Rackspace, etc. Some will simply have thier own server infrastructure and use those. Basically MS is establishing standards and services for Xbox One games and Sony is saying were not stopping you from reaching out across the internet to do other things. |
Once again, Sony will be expending their cloud services as it's not clear how things will work. But I do know MS likes making things standards and Sony gives you choices.
The advantage will be there early, but as usual Sony will catch up. But the cloud thing is not new nor exclusives, that's my point. It's just being expanded. But imagine having access to Uncharted 2 in my cellphone one day, thats the cloud I dream about.
