Well for one I work with cloud services and know the juggernout Microsoft is in this area. Amazon and Microsoft tend to duke it out with rest getting the scrapps. I can't give you the actual figure but no one anywhere talks about Sony when it comes to cloud computing... The real benefit of this "cloud computing" for xbox one is not processing power but availability. Microsoft is making it available and free for all devs to use their cloud servers. Sony is not doing this because they cant. They don't have the scale. Some games can use the same cloud computing features, but it won't be the standard... Content resources are great to have but if you've looked at different digital outlets lately, the stuff Sony has is not exclusive to sony devices and platforms. They tend to go to all devices that have market penetration. I have the entire Sony catalogue of music at my fingertips on Xbox music. |
The reason MS brings out Cloud Computing so much is because they need to compete with the PS4.
When Sony was asked about :"But what about Sony's next-gen machine? Sure, it can stream games via the cloud-powered Gaikai. But can it also follow Microsoft's step in offloading computation to the cloud? "Of course," Sony's Shuhei Yoshida said.
and: "We don't believe every title needs that," he said. "But if your title needs [an] online connection to provide some online features: Go for it."
The PS4 will be pwerful enough to not need Cloud but if a dev needs, they will have access.
