I'd say they are taking a very different approach, each of their other console was expensive and marketed in part with a new form of disk based media people could use to listen to cd on or watch dvd and bluray. Now they are focusing just on delivering new gaming experiences (and traditional ones too) at a relatively affordable price. And the ps4-vita interconnectivity looks like it could be revolutionary if truly done right (e.g every exclusive sony game playable by remote play or something cool like this.
