You know that microsoft is having a hard time right now, outclassed in the server market, a flop on the mobile phone market, a flop in the tablet market, and the lowest rate of uptake (windows 8) on any new windows OS since BOB. The company may have a lot of resources, but they are still stretched pretty thin right now.
Sony the company does not have many bright spots outside of thier gaming division.
Nintendo is a gaming only company, with a portable system that is dominating and huge cash reserves....
MS's only real advantage is the anticompetitive tactics it has always used, pay people to snub your competitors to make you look better... rather than spend money to make your self better. (timed exclusives, not anouncing the new COD for WiiU until after E3, what ever EA says and then has to retract quietly later, sending MS staff to WiiU events, and so on)
