I take offence at this statement. In my experience, a competently dubbed anime is far superior to subs. For one, the more subtle aspects of dialogue such as sarcasm can't be properly conveyed through text, even with the Japanese "gibberish" in the background. Two, constantly glancing down to read the subs takes away from the experience, ruins immersion, and even makes well animated shounen fight scenes a chore to watch. Having to follow the sometimes too-fast moving text can make complex Anime more difficult to follow as well. Three, a well made dub will translate some of the more culture specific references in a show. Now, I understand that this is a major minus for some, but I'd rather not have to pause my show to google the meaning of a metaphore that could've just as easily been switched to the western equivalent.

I won't stop there, though, I could argue for the case of console gaming as well. It's cheaper, for one. The fact of the matter is, if you're using your machine solely for gaming, consoles offer significantly better performance per dollar AND performance per watt than PCs could ever hope to match. That cannot be denied. Consoles also have the benefit of being "plug and play." Thanks to their extremely closed design, there's no need to mess around with drivers and the like. You're never left wondering if a game will be able to run on your machine. If it has "Xbox" or "Playstation" on the box, it's guaranteed to work. I've also recently noticed that consoles have significantly better third party controller support, which is a shame.

Then I apologize. I never meant to offend anyone. All I was saying as how people (when it comes to things like anime, pc etc) bring my piss a boil every time they say things like that when it's so obvious. They like to hold it over our heads like a bunch of elitists. I for one couldn't agree more with the bold. The American audeince will understand the show more when it's localized to english. BTW I think dub for Panty and Stocking is excellent. Great points about tihngs with PC too. Both have their ad/disadvantages but I prefer console over PC gaming.

Heh, don't take my statement too seriously. When I say I "take offence" at something, I usually just mean I disagree strongly. :P

Anyhoo, I do feel that the PC vs. consoles argument is usually missing the point, but alas, my PC gaming brethren are becoming a bigger fighting force, so I'm certain that we'll be seeing more of this in the next gen console wars.

Ah, and I haven't seen Panty and Stocking yet, but I'll be watching it after I finish Gurren Lagann. Dubs for Gainax anime are usually pretty good.
