I'm not always going to be on PS+ so I'm disappointed that it's required to play online, but as a PS+ user, you get atleast five games a month, some of them being retail games for PS3 and Vita. It's a great service without the forced online requirement.
However, if you've only got a few games with online and you don't play those games online, then don't worry about it. It's not going to stop the sales of many of those games because people wouldn't play those games online in the first place. Atleast that's what it seems like your comment is coming across as.
Asynchronous online in will be free so you're not required to pay for PS+ for that. Games with single player leaderboards like the Arkham series or Mirror's Edge, Dragon's Dogma's pawn system, and I'd think Test Drive Unlimited 2 race creator and Infamous 2's level creator where you can download levels others have created. These things are asynchonous systems so if going by what Yoshida stated, then all of these should be free.
Other than F2P games, any game where you interact with another player online is going to require PS+. There are some games I have that I've played the online, but it's not a requirement for me. If I run out of PS+ and the free games don't interest me then I'm sure I can wait until some free games I want are available before signing back up. Although I will admit, out of the 32 games I own that have online I've put in a decent amount of time playing online multiplayer on 15 of those games. That includes co op on games like Resident Evil 5, Saints Row the Third, Sacred 2, Black Ops 2, Uncharted 2, Twisted Metal, Dead or Alive 5, Playstation All Stars, etc, so not just competitive games but co op as well.
Time will tell whether I don't have PS+ at the time and really want the service enough to pay for it. I'm not a fan of it though so unless I really want to play something online and I don't have PS+ for the games you get, then I'd rather stay offline and not pay if I can help it.
