The only reason Microsoft is going ahead with this craziness is because they know they can easily backtrack on this post-launch with a simple firmware update . They would if sales are bad and peoples' memories will be erased.
I mean they got away with charging for peer to peer online and even the frickin RROD thing. Microsoft doesn't give a shit at this point.
