They are taking games away from you. You think you are buying something, but now you are not. They are in fact renting the games to you but charging you full price as if you were acquiring some property, which is not the case.
It is happening. You can resell your XBOX360, but will the digital content carry on to the XBone? No. Those were never your games to begin with.
This is my problem with this conspiracy against consumers property. It is a scam. It is deceptive. When I buy stuff I KNOW I can resell later, I hesitate less. But knowing that I will be stuck with something (that maybe I end up not liking) for the rest of my life, well, maybe I just won't buy it in the first place.
Games cannot be compared with cars, I can agree with that. But Videogames have more value than other types of products such as books, DVD movies or CD's music. After some time you can still get some money out of selling YOUR content.
I am afraid games will become either worthless, like a magazine, or super expensive. I don't like the idea of games turning into something more like a cable subscription (hell, at least you can still record your favorite TV shows).
So if they told me that games are no longer going to be sold and instead they are going to rent it to me ONLY FOR THE 20% OF THE full purshase price, well that would be another story. But they are changing the reality of the business and calling it the same way. Buying and renting are different business.
When people talk about Valve, for instance, in spite of them keeping the buying and selling language, all I can think is "it is just an overpriced rental service". You have no control over your property (it is not property) they do, they control the content, because is theirs, not yours. Very different from buying a physical book, or a movie, or a CD.
