They've been doing this gen too.  In Battlefield 3 you could pay to unlock all weapons.  I absolutely hate when publishers put a numerical $ value on progression, it ruins the game for me and makes me feel like I wasted my time.  Also, in their NHL games you can straight up pay to use better players (online) which really is the ultimate pay to win.
