I think it is kind of unfair to compare black people to Irish/Whatever immigrants. There were not a set of racist laws in the United States against Irish/White immigrants that lasted until the mid-60s. There wasn't segregation between Immigrants and people born here that lasted until the mid-60s (only 40 years ago), as there was Black/White segregation. I believe this has put black people at a significant disadvantage in our society, regardless of how much "gutter trash" you've come across.
