Its actually the big budget games that are affecting sales. When the core gamer audience is 12-30 and majorly middle class, the core gamer only buys certain big name titles and spends almost double the price tag on that purchase for DLC. Used games != potential sales at all. The problem is certain games are taking a bigger slice of the pie therefore limiting other new game purchases. However, when one buys a used game and likes it they are more likely to buy a new game of that same series/developer later, and may not of initially learned of it if the game didn't have a used game price tag. Furthermore, certain big production games while still great are not always giving the consumer what they want or keeping up with the consumer market. I for one rarely ever buy a single player only game new, just because I don't think the new price tag is worth my money when there are other great games coming out with online capabilities that I can play with friends online. So I might pick up a used copy of a single player game I'm interested in used at a later time since those games majorly have a lack of replay value.
