Im not arguing against Nintendo dragging the Wii U out of the hole, because I genuinely think it will do well next Year with support and a price cut. What Im arguing against is the frankly ridiculous thought that the PS4 and Xbox One will be selling 25,000 units per week only a few months from launch. The consumer is desperate for a new generation of hardware. These consoles will be supported, a lot, by 1st parties and 3rd parties. A console that costs $399 can still sell, as long as it has compelling content and the press is behind it. You need to remember why the PS3 sold like it did during the early years. It was because it was $600, far more expensive than the competition and had literally nothing good worth playing. We know for a fact that the PS4 wont have this problem because its still relatively cheap and has support. The One Im not too sure on, because of the $499 price tag, despite good support. The Wii U has been selling like it has, because software support for the machine has been non-existant from both Nintendo and 3rd parties. The PS4 and Xbox One wont have that problem. |
I didnt know that a 400$ console can be considered as ''relatively cheap'' console.
Anyway, the X360 launched at 400$ too (300$ for basic model) back in 2005 and it sold between 60k and 80k weekly during the low season of its first two years on the market.
If you take into consideration that today's market is nowhere near as the 2005-2006 market (due to economy, iphone&tablet gaming, etc.), you won't think that sales in the 25k-50k range during the low season is a ''ridiculous thought''.
