I agree. It's not backpedaling. It's just as meaningless as when their "ears were open" about DRM.

Do active listen, parrot back the concerns, show empathy, and then go about doing what you were doing before.  Nothing changes and hope the irate people go away and maybe get seduced by later software offerings.
