Sources? From Metro's preview: "But to watch the demo, both the trailer at the media briefing and the live re-run we’re treated to later, it gives every impression of being an ultra-shallow, almost on-the-rails, actioner with all the combat replaced by mindless quick time event (QTE) sequences. But that’s not actually the case at all. Actually getting to play the game later we found to our surprise that you have full control of Titus, and that although the onscreen prompts make it look like a QTE-fest that’s not what’s really going on. The button prompts are actually just the end points of a combo and it doesn’t even matter if you don’t hit them – you’ll just get fewer rewards if you don’t." |
Not that its on rails, but that its immediately flawed by the QTE or Kill cinematics, what ever you want to call it. They are too persistant and interupt the flow of combat.
Destructoid:
"Despite their insistence, they were totally quicktime events. Worse yet, their inclusion (complete with the contextual buttons) was a constant blemish on an otherwise beautiful game. Each time an execution was begun, it focused the camera on that particular unfortunate subject, completely ignoring any other enemies that had been engaged. It's a situation that we've seen enough, and has never been great."
