@OP:

Why people love companies when they only want your money? Because those companies deserve your money! If a good game/console is made, people want to buy it because of the quality it has. They don't just love the company, they love it's products.
Sometimes this turns into an obsession. As many people can't afford multiple consoles, they only stick with one. Scared that they might have chosen the wrong one, they literally praise everything the company does, often making irrational, unlogical statements.
This is called fanboyism, and in the worst cases it can be compared to fundamental religion, coming to your 'defend them as if they're gods' example.
So yes, for fanboys, companies are very much like gods.

In this forum, the situation is a little more complicated. Because the main thing on VGChartz is sales numbers, the most objective part of the console war, fanboys are put into a very awkward position. If console A sells more weekly than console B, they can at most deny it with the 'VGChartz undertracks console B!!' argument.
For this reason, they make strange predictions, like 'Wii is a fad and it will stop selling next week'.

I'll warn you: fanboys are verywhere and they cannot be reasoned with, and this forum is about sales, money and companies, so if you think those are irrelevant, you might wan't to back off.
And if you don't want to back of and learn to live with fanboys just like most of us: welcome to the forums!
