There is no concrete evidence supporting rrod, and correct me if I am wrong, but the original Xbox had no such technical faults. The ps3 also had ylod, albeit in considerably smaller numbers, the older models died out. If anything to learn from this is that the manufacturers have hopefully learned their mistakes, seeing as ms didn't rush xb1 out of the gate last year to secure a lead, it is likely that they have completed a full analysis of any potential technical faults that may arise with the console.
The denial of rrod existence initially may have hurt ms reputation, but the measures they have provided afterwards have proved to the consumer that they will attempt to fix the fucking fault.. Eventually. The DRM stuff and the initial launch price are biggest concerns, and adding the kinect box which is probably relatively cheap to manufacture in an attempt to add value to the launch, most likely deluxe bundle is a bit lame-ish but understandable. As stated previously, the box will sell out for the first year regardless, its the summer draught that will take a heavy toll unless there is a price drop or some significant changes which could spur the late adapters.
Also the claim that ms fanboys are the most fanatical is laughable at best, only have to look at this forum and probably many other online gaming forums to gain a glimpse of the full picture, its not Apple, but they're behaving like it, which will hopefully backfire, but I wouldn't be too hopeful.
Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.
