Right afterwards Sony undercut them with a $299 price.
As for Nintendo, they stuck to just showing off software.
That gen ended up with Sony dominating, Nintendo in a distant but healthy 2nd and Sega doing well in one territory (Japan) but horrible elswhere.

I could see this gen end with PS4 in 1st with 100m+, Wii U-60m and One-40m with 70% sales in USA.
