If real earnings haven't increased (=consumers don't have more disposable income), then the rate of inflation is rather meaningless. Additionally, as others have pointed out, the absolute price of electronics has gone down in recent years, not up.
Now imagine how delighted consumers will be when they find out they just bought an overpriced rental box.
