Following the success of Uncharted 2, Naughty Dog, arguably Sony's greatest asset, split their studio. With one half working on Uncharted 3, and the other half working on The Last of Us.
Seeing as The Last of Us isn't out yet it would be hard to gauge which is the better game. However some lucky people among us have played both Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us *cough* Aldro *cough*. So I'd like to ask you, which is the better game, and ultimately, which is the better team?
I'd like to make note Uncharted 2 achieved massive critic praise scoring a 96 on Metacritic with 39 perfect scores. The Last of Us stands with a 96 on Metacritic and 31 perfect scores, and still counting. Uncharted 3 scored a 92 on Metacritic and has 24 perfect scores.
Based on those numbers alone you would assume that The Last of Us is the better game right? Which ultimately makes the team behind The Last of Us better? Not exactly, I'd like to point out one key factor that nobody has taken into consideration.
Both games started development at the same time. Uncharted 3, like Uncharted 2, was in development for only 2 years. Whereas The Last of Us has also been in development since 2009, giving it a total of 3 and a half years in development.
Does this extra year and a half of development account for the small gap in quality? Or do you think The Last of Us would still be the better game even with a shortened development period?
I say both teams are on equal ground when it comes to quality, however I favor the team behind The Last of Us simply because I love the idea behind the game and I think they might give me the most emotional experience I will ever experience in a game.
