How is this like Steam?
As far as I know you dont need a decent internet connection to activate games on steam...hell you can use your phone as a modem and do that.
Once the game is activated you can play that game for the rest of your life in offline mode. The shit MS is pulling is on another level.
And steam has awesome deals :) MS doesnt even come close O_O
