Do you not realise that gamers want both Microsoft and Sony to NOT implement these things?

It's a backwards step in gaming,a  hindrance and it breachers consumer rights. A lot of gamers have already said they won't buy or support either console if they go ahead and fully block used games and require an online connection.

Neither Sony nor Microsoft have given clear answers so this thread really is pointless. The only reason Sony fanboys on other websites have been so vocal is because Microsoft have confirmed that some type of online DRM and used game blocking will be implemented. But neither company have divulged details. Sony have said things that puts them in a more positive light for gamers but a lot of things are still up in the air.

Can we not have a thread about this every 5 minutes.

Well, we see a lot of people targeting Microsoft and assuming THEY are starting this and they are setting an exemple for other companies (like Sony) to do it.
This thread is all about this and to remind them that Sony is as "evil" as any other companies, money is their first priority :P

While I do not care in my case as I want to be able to first play without the disc and start all of my game without the need to insert the disc and also I'm always connected : I agree that no DRM is better.

no question there @bold
but can you wrap your head around the idea that there are other ways to grab our money? Sony and Nintendo, as platform holders, can negotiate with publishers some other way to bring more cash in their platform other than intrusive DRM...
you can go check my post history, and see that i am pro DRM, because i work in a SW house and know creating SW is hard work, but DRM must be well implemented and work without the consumer ever notice he is there, unless they make something illegal (not illegal to be off-line, to lend a game or sell your disc game(by selling it you must revoke the right to play that game and the new owner must get a new user right permit to use that SW). And the lack of Laws in this matter is disturbing BTW...

Very glad you got the point of the thread. Many did not and just came in defense of Sony or argued about the patent itself instead :)

Now, we can still talk about DRM of course!

Regarding your point, I am not disgreeing at all. I think it would be hard to argue that no-DRM is better than DRM for the end user :)

My reality is that, on a personal stand point, it does not bother me that much; and at the same time I really find the fact that you need to connect to the internet once per 24 hours really not as drastic as some seem to believe. I have a lot of game on Steam and it is way more drastic than that... Same for downloadable games on console... I actually see this as an advantage (because you install the game and forget the disc)

Now, if the console makers let us sell back our game online on in-store (and it looks like we will be able to do so), then the only draw drawback is to be able to lend a game disc to a friend... But again, you cannot do that with digital games or most of the PC games today.
