While I think that Sony has always planned for a similar DRM (I've stated as such many times already), I do think they may have backtracked off of it completely due to the fallout MS has seen and the clear ability to differentiate themselves and their console in this manner. |
Sony would most likely suffer a backlash from publishers if they promised them some kind of protection similar to Microsoft and then backed out of it halfway through the development cycle. They're all about giving the publishers more power, ever since the PS1.
It will be interesting to see what is confirmed at E3
