It's an ego boost to see the game you like rated high on metacritic. |
It is for some people, but that's not the whole story. As much as people deny it, metacritic can effect the sales and overall success of a game. I firmly believe that had Uncharted 2 not received such universally positive reviews, the franchise would not have been nearly as popular as it is right now. So, if the meta is insanely high, the game gets hype which translates into sales. I'm not saying that reviewers should lie so that games can be successful, but giving low scores for hits or being paid off by another company in terms of ads etc to give a bad score is unethical as far I am concerned and completely unacceptable. I good write a review for any game and give it a 5/10 and justify it in my review. That still doesn't make it ok.
