I think it is called confirmation bias. Where you may not admit it; but you prefer the rest of the world, or at least the majority, shares your opinion.
I gave up on reviews a decade ago when several games I loved got low scores. One of my favorite games of all time received a 4/10 from the magazine I read at the time. I prefer now to rent games and see for myself if I enjoy it.
