I think the market would be smaller. Playstation was kinda the Wii of its time in the fact that it brought gaming to people who werent typically gamers. The 5th gen would have still grown but not nearly as much.
Its been told that Saturn was originally going to be much weaker but panicked at the PS specs and reworked the console making it more powerful but also more expensive and harder to develop for. So lets say Saturn released in Sept 1995 for $299 and was a 2D powerhouse with limited 3D capabilities like originally planned.
If they did that im not sure which console would have gotten the 3rd part supprt, the CD based but much weaker Saturn or the cartridge based powerhouse N64?
