i wasn't saying gamers play only certain genres. i was actually saying the exact opposite. people who are really gamers play a plethora of different games. as opposed to people who i say aren't true gamers who only play two different types of games and aren't at all interested in anything else.
i'm not saying you have to like all genres, i myself don't like realistic type racers like gran turismo cuz they are boring as anything, and 3d fighters i think are pretty crappy, and mini game compilations like mario party also i don't think are too good and would pretty much never buy one(only one i ever got was fuzion frenzy cuz twisted system in that game was awesome) but i like any other genre as long as i find the game to be fun. but if you only play one or two different types of games you're not really a gamer in the view of people who play games not because they have the aura of "being cool" but because they are fun to play which are the true hardcore.
the people who seem to be called the "hardcore" these days are these people that pretty much only play madden, fps, and gta. but they make up a decent part of the industry these days and are pretty much half the casual crew, with the other half being the type that only buy really simple games that are usually classified as casual games.
