Right now WiiU is only appealing to Nintendo fans and they don't need to do anything beyond what they are already doing to win that crowd.
There is no way in heck WiiU is going to prevent any 'core' gamer from getting a PS4/XBOne so that's a lost cause.
Nintendo is already releasing Wii Fit U and Wii Party U for casuals. Sony doesn't seem interested in that market so that's doing nothing to 'counter' PS4, it could somewhat counter XBOne for that audience. Maybe. But I doubt it. Really that audience is on mobile devices now and I don't see them coming back. Not for those games anyway.
