They seem core to me. In fact, kids can be the most core since they have more time to devote to gaming. Just because they play the same game series doesn't negate their identity as a core gamer. From a business perspective, a consumer who buys 10 games of the same franchise is just as "core" to their business as someone who buys 10 games from different franchises.
