Our government really just doesn't take cybersecurity seriously. The place i got fired from on Wednesday handled four to six thousand background-check-applications per day, and while they enforced silly rules like "you have to lock your computer when you walk away from it" (despite the fact that everyone inside the facility had cleared a security check), they ran all of the sensitive information on a DOS-based Java applet operated through Internet Explorer's ActiveX, which they have been using for this process since the 1970s.
