I would ask the question if you don't care about blu ray (which I don't) what makes the PS3 worth $200 or $300? Additionally, I would ask you why you assume the 40 gig will have full backwards compatibility? The 80 gig had software backwards compatibility and then it was removed in the 40 gig. So really the only reason that makes sense is Sony doesn't want you buying a new shiny console to play old games. And I haven't read anything that states they are working really hard to implement it. Bc if they were it'd be done by now.
