This is the same thing Nintendo professed back when they were about to release the WiiU and so far that hasn't worked out well for them.
Gamers are looking for solid gaming experiences, there is innovation to be attained in gaming without adding a fancy peripheral.

Just because casuals threw themselves once for the Wii doesn't mean they are waiting to get into gaming again, especially now that they are very occupied with their smartphones and stuff.
According to who? You? Please link me a article showing that the decline in the casual game market will be because of smartphones.
You can draw casuals in if you get their interest with a peripheral. So far WiiU tried to beckon everyone with the touch screen by flirting to the iPhone/iPad generation, it hasn't been successful so far.
Honestly the WiiU screwed up for many reasons, the main reason IMO being people did not know if it was a new console or just a add on to the wii. Nintendo's marketing team really screwed up here.

How is it wishful thinking? Kinect was the fastest selling consumer electronic of all time, saying it wont be succesful again is what you call wishful thinking (not saying you think that but you wouldn't have mention it if you didn't). I do doubt it will be as successful though.

You seem to think that by saying things like "will" they will happen and that is not the case and you are not convincing anyone with that approach, but if writing sentences in such a manner makes you feel better and rest yourself better at night, power to you.
Okay calm down, did the OP offend you in any way? XBL is constantly growing, so yes when MS up the ante it will attract gamers. If you do not believe that heres an article from last month showing how fast xbox live is growing

According to the article there was only 25 million XBL subscribers as of dec. 2010 and by april of this year it has increased to 46 million. Nearly doubled in little over 2 years. You know what this means right? XBL is attracting more consumers, if it wasn't the amount of subscribers wouldn't rapidly increase as much as they do.
The PS controller also has a touch pad, Xbox doesn't. Let us see how it is implemented and we will see if it brings forth meaningful experiences. I doubt it will get any casuals though.
Every new feature in DS4 is a gimmick, other than the share button. The touchpad is beyond useless, whats can the touch pad do that i cannot already do with my thumbstick? Just like sixaxis it will be abandoned. The xbox one controller on the other hand seems to bring much more innovation such as the impulse triggers.
