Well, lets not call the pot a kettle.
Sony stripped away functionality with the PS3, removing Linux and removing hardware-based backwards compatability.
The only difference here is that, Microsoft is letting everyone know what they're getting into before buying into the platform.

It's still a crappy thing both companys are doing/have done and it doesn't have consumers in it's best interests either.

I'm actually hoping Micrososft has slow sales with the Xbox One with the core demographic, it might make them sit-up and listen and remove some of the restrictions, they are goverened by financial incentives after all, like all for-profit companies.
