The base price was $499 not $599 it was a reasonable price given the technologies it came with, even though the planning was horrible and risky. Bluray being anti-consumer is subjective indeed, I think it was a step that initially harmed sony, but not necessarily its customers. Free online play was a great advantage whether or not PSN was fresh, and it remained free as promised.

You may find it cheesy, but selling at great losses is also a form of good customer-service.

I don't know if you remember that time, but the 499 one didn't sell well at all, and was discontinued in a short amount of time. But w/e, its all subjective. Nm.
