This is what I believe will happen too. 

It will be interesting to see what third parties will include this DRM in their games.   Ubisoft and EA are likely candidates since they already implement drm in most of PC games.

I think "leave it to publishers" won't change anything in the grand scheme of things. If MS is doing it full force on the Xbone then 3rd parties will do the exact same thing on the PS4, sure it's optional, but that won't stop 3rd parties from taking advantage of it. Sony 1st party games and indie games will be safe, but those represent a very low percentage of a console's library, so in the end it will be the same as the Xbone (unless you go exclusively on 1st party and indie games).
