It makes sense on all accounts.
For Sony, this is one of the biggest previously Microsoft-exclusive developers, so for sure they want to show off the game to their fans who may have never played a Bungie game.
And obviously for Bungie it makes a lot more sense from a business standpoint to debut with Sony, because that's the market they need to convince to buy their game. They already have a huge fanbase that will buy their game on the Xbone (lol).

It's all about the game.
