The TV side of this is quite interesting if they get it right. My PS3 really did end up turning into a netflix/lovefilm hub for my TV. If the XBOne and PS4 nail that with a much more streamlined interface they could both be a decent proposition. However, it's not whether gaming is the future of consoles, but more whether consoles are the future of gaming. What with the rapid improvements in the horsepower in tablets etc, and the likes of Steam and Origin, and these tablets, laptops, PCs etc all now starting to be easy to connect to a TV, if they take their eye off the core gaming market too much. Consoles will be irrelevant. |
A year ago the "consensus" was the PS4 might even be weaker than Wii U. There was actually only a new rumor at the time that suggested the GPU was in fact closer to the then current rumors of Durango. (you guys I think forget I also have that comparison thread, so I've paid pretty damn close attention to all these rumors).
My language in that particular paragraph is not guessing or being vague on purpose. Its simply a legit account of the rumors of the time and an acknowldgement that regardless of how it ended up (for the record I did say it could be very close to Xone and that is exacly accurate now as they are very close to eachother).
Finally, me point to the thread was to suggest services would be as important as games in all next consoles and primarily because MSony/Nintendo all recognized the very real threat of Apple/Google moving from pure mobile to more integrated TV-connected devices with a good gaming focus. Read that thread and see how many said myh OP would be massively off. Facts are it isn't and its extremely accurate, even if you take that one line and pretend it was false (PS4 power relation line).
