I actually agree. They manage to make you feel like you're throwing a lot away if you switch, though things like Gamerscore and Achievements aren't "real". It's something many MMOs pull off, where people have the mindset that they've invested too much to leave.
Consoles of today are more likely to retain from one generation to the next, I think. Makes me wonder if Nintendo would have lost as many people to Playstation if they had virtual rewards and friend lists back then.
