I think in a way, they are preventing a possible video game market crash on the console space by embracing the indie side of things, and I think Sony sees it too while MS is heading in a completely different direction altogether.

It's not that the video game market is crashing but actually has now evolved to where the definition of console is blurred; it's no longer fixed to a dedicated gaming device. We now live in an extremely media-centric era where entertainment is practically everywhere. That said, I agree that Nintendo is trying to save the specific dedicated gaming console space while attacting gamers with short attention span also LOL
