The problem is: form follows function. If you remember the picture from wired with the big fan and the motherboard, they didn't have a big chance to build it another way.

design and form factor follows function
if you want power theres no way its going to be small, quiet, cold and reliable
of course physical design is important lol
aesthetics dont, if that was the original point though...
