Okay, thanks for clarifying. I think that there's a difference between the market I'm thinking of and the usual casual audience. The difference would be that the casual audience will buy games like NSMB but in general the extended market would not. The extended audience are those that saw the Wii at first and thought "that's what I want!". It's not the same as those that bought NSMB and MK, but might be a portion of those who bought Wii Fit for example. A good parallel in the movie industry are a good portion of people who watch those movies that reach a vast audience. Examples are Star Wars at the time, and the Matrix in more recent years. These are people who will adopt the product or content because it speaks to them and there was a lot of word of mouth, it is not niche. That's why I believe that these people not only don't have patience for games, but even less for games of low quality. So, games like Rabbids will not be their cup of tea, much like NSMB may not be to their level of relevance. |
I see where you are coming from, but im still not feeling the quality bit. Its funny you mention Rabbids, because that is one of the series that actually got MORE popular on WIi one of the few that actually increased its numbers. It didnt do NSMB numbers but did do good. I think there is alot of overlap between who bought WiiFit and NSMB and even MK. I mean, very few games sold anywhere close to that and those are the ones that are still being bought. Its such a contrast between the other two where you'll see a game get frontloaded hang around and dissapear.
