My wish for a track editor would be a partnership with Google maps. Draw a course on real life roads in google maps which the game then transforms into a driveable in game track. That's what cloud computing is good for.
There are plenty of roads around here I would like to race on :)

That is what the GT app for smartphones will do... it will use the GPS tracking to recreated a couse in the track editor... well that what I expect.

"Players will also have the option of plugging in data from a GPS to create a course based on it."

That will be a really revolution feature in the GT franchise if they can implement in the right way.

True, but having worked with gps navigation I know what kind of juicy data is out there.
Your gps can map your course, but not elevation of the country side, land type and surroundings, side streets, street type, width, etc. Besides elevation is not all that accurate from regular gps receivers.

Not to take away from GPS tracking, pretty cool feature already. I took my gps receiver with me mountain biking back in '02. Back home I could see the full course recreated in our gps navigation program, and being able to test drive it like a road. Awesome to see it projected along the detailed river data we had for that area.

It would be very useful for recreating local real world race circuits. Let's hope there will be a place where you can download the best ones, LBP style.
