I think iOS and Android have proven to the general users that you should never lose your content.

Thankfully Nintendo has kept that promise, even if more cumbersome than it should be (wii mode).

MS is saying who cares and Sony will attempt to give an option via its Gaikai service, probably for a nominal fee akin to Wii to WiiU VC upgrades. (not really that bad of an idea)

However, I think I've been proven right with MS and very much Sony in my early 2012 thread regarding smart services and other entertainment being considered equally as important (if no more so) than games on next-gen consoles. Nintendo is clearly the only one with a primary focus on games. Sony is more 50/50 and MS seems to be more smart OS focused.

Only time will tell which one will do better in the market, but I think among "gamers" Nintendo/Sony will be more appealing and among the larger mass market in general, MS will win big... if the cost is appropriate.
